The pedestrian-induced swaying of London’s Millennium Bridge and other bridges/walkways is not well understood. These Biology Letters authors created the first biomechanically-plausible computer simulation of a large crowd of humans walking on a bridge. They found that stable walking could induce the bridge oscillations and that synchronisation of the pedestrians may not be needed after all.
