Elk are one of Yellowstone’s most commonly seen animals, yet they never fail to impress. Males, known as bulls, can weigh up to 700 pounds and grow antlers as long as six feet across. Each spring, they shed those antlers and begin growing a new set — covered in soft velvet until fall.
