The maker starts with a flat steel disc mounted on a spinning lathe. Instead of relying on heavy presses or automated forming machines, he uses a long, solid steel rod with a rounded tip as his shaping tool. As the disc spins at high speed, he leans his body weight into the rod, pressing the metal gradually against a bowl-shaped mold beneath it. The steel doesn’t
